Were putting these two Digital reflex cameras
head to head in what is possibly the biggest fight in the dslr market
with both of these DSLR under $500 as of 11/08. Since we have not
created sample images with each of these cameras, the least we can
do is match them up head to head.

            General conclusion

When it comes to settings for image capture the cameras are evenly
matched with the same ISO and shutter speed selections, but the
speed of the shutter (shutterlag) puts the EOS XS in the driver
seat with a hard to match 55ms capture! Resolution of the Canon
XS is about 40% more than the D40, with the price being only about
30% (retail) more so the XS is pixel for pixel faster and less expensive.
If you shoot in the dark a far amount then the mettering of the
Kikon D40 is something to think aboutFor those of you who have more
than one Nikor lens already this may not be important, but for those
of you stepping into the DSLR level it's just a question of what
your really want to spend on your camera and with the deals we found
that should help make it easier for you ;-).
